Breeding Quality

Breeding Quality Sales Policy

Breeding quality animals are sold with a full pedigree and any information I have on their show placings, qualities, and production. I do NOT sell breeding animals for pairing to unpedigreed, unknown background animals. If you have a current chinchilla that comes from an unknown background and/or a pet store, I strongly encourage you to purchase a same sex partner from our owner surrenders/rescue page or our current babies listed on the "for sale" page. While a pedigree is not a guarantee against genetic maladies, it gives a much higher chance of NOT reproducing serious genetic disorders such as malocclusion. Here at RDZC Ranch, we promote ethical breeding with an emphasis on producing healthy, high quality animals that live long lives with friendly dispositions.

When inquiring about breeding quality, you will be asked about current chinchillas and their pedigree status and whether they have been evaluated for quality. Breeding quality animals are typically evaluated for quality on several characteristics including size, conformation, clarity, density, fur strength, veiling, veiling coverage, and color. Pedigreed animals should be paired with complimentary traits at the forefront and NOT what color mutation they are or can produce.

We encourage the use of herd improvement standards for any herd. No matter what your breeding goal is, you should have a backbone of strong standards to continue to increase the quality and robustness of your herd.

Breeding animals NOT bred by RDZC Ranch do not come with a guarantee. They will be listed with all possible information, but as an animal not of our breeding we cannot offer guarantees on the animal.

Breeding animals bred by RDZC Ranch come with a 1yr guarantee on breeding. If the animal is paired properly to another pedigreed animal and fails to produce within 1 year of being placed in breeding, you may bring the animal back to RDZC Ranch to be exchanged for an animal of equal quality and value. Chinchillas lost to breeding accidents, fights, or other maladies are not guaranteed. Breeding animals come with a 48 hour health guarantee. If the animal passes away in the first 48 hours and a necropsy is performed showing a pre-existing condition, the animal will be replaced with one of equal value. No refunds will be given.

Sale Terms

Proven: This means the animal has produced at least one litter of babies.
Acceptable [xx]: Means the quality of the trait is of breeding quality, but needs improvement.
Good [xx]: Means the quality is mid range. It could use some improvement, but is not on the low end. Average.
Excellent [xx]: Means the quality is herd improvement. This quality can be paired to improve animals lacking this quality.
Clarity: This quality has to do with how clear color shows through in the coat.
Size: How large the animal is.
Conformation: width of the shoulders in relation to the hips, should be comparable especially in females.
Veiling: good veiling is complete from the nose to the base of the tail.
Veiling coverage: How complete the veiling is across the back of the animal
Density: How thick the fur is.
Fur Strength: How straight the fur shaft is lends to how well the fur holds it's shape above the body.
Color: Good color will show a more blue hue and not yellow, red, or green.
Belly: White bellied animals should have a stark white belly with no grey, brown, or black speckling and no creamy yellow tint.

This girl is a very smooth, showy standard female. She did not make my show string this year simply based on size and condition. She is a good size for breeding, though she doesn't tip the scales. Her veiling and veiling coverage are good with nice, strong fur, though she could use a little more density. Would do well in a standard line or a white line if paired with a large male.

This male is a very nice darker phase beige male. He would do great paired with some lighter, blocky females for beige production or paired with a nice blocky extra dark ebony could produce some really nice tans. He took reserve phase champion at the 2021 West Coast MCBA Show and 1st place (fourth overall beige) at the 2021 Northwestern ECBC Show.
